The quiet print.
Being here. Apherios is free to use and offered as it is, without guarantees. The world may change, pause, or be reset while it grows. Please be kind: no harassment, hate, sexual content, spam, or anything illegal, in chat, letters, guestbooks, signs, photos or what you build. Content or accounts that break this may be removed.
What you make. What you build, write and photograph stays yours. By placing it in a shared world you allow Apherios to store it and show it to other players. Any photo you take in the game, and any article you submit, may be featured in the Apherios Times.
What is stored. Only what the world needs to remember you: your player name, a password (stored as a hash, never readable), your avatar, your island and what is on it, your position, the guestbook entries and letters you write, who you have blocked, and any report you make. No email address, real name or payment details are asked for. The game does not save your IP address; like most websites, the web server keeps ordinary access logs, used only to block abuse. The server also counts how many people visit each day and month; only the totals are kept, never who.
In your browser. Apherios keeps a few settings and a login token in your browser's local storage so you stay signed in. No advertising, no tracking, and no analytics cookies.
Keeping it kind. Chat and guestbook messages are checked for abuse by software running on the Apherios server itself. They are never sent to an outside AI company.
Chat is never stored. What you say in chat, and your conversations with the characters you meet, exist only while they happen. They are not logged or kept. The one exception: when someone reports a player, the chat lines they saw from that player and from themselves in the 30 minutes before go with the report, so it can be looked at. Nothing else is ever read. Guestbook entries and letters are saved, because that is their purpose.
Everything stays here. The whole game is served from Apherios's own server. It loads nothing from other websites. Only the "Buy me a coffee" link leads elsewhere, to buymeacoffee.com, which has its own terms.
Backups. So the world can be restored if something breaks, it is backed up every hour: on the Apherios server and, encrypted so nobody else can read it, in a Google Drive that belongs to Apherios. Old copies are deleted automatically; none is kept longer than about a year.
Your data, your call. You can ask to see, correct or delete your account and everything linked to it by writing to apheriosworld@gmail.com.
